In The Name of God Amen

I, Joseph Vincent of the Town of Dock in the parish of Stoke Damerel in the County of Devon, Gentleman, being weak in body but of a sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding so for avoiding controversies after my decease do make publish and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner following.

That is to say first and principally I recommend my soul to almighty God who gave it me hoping through the mediation of our beloved saviour Jesus Christ to obtain xxx of all my sins. My body I desire may be buried in a xxx and frugal manner at the discretion of my executors hereinafter named and as to such worldly Estate with which it hath pleased God to give me I give and dispose as follows.

That is to say I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Johannah Vincent all that messuage tenement or dwelling house and premises with all and singular the (contents) thereunto belonging, situate in Cannon Street in the said Town of Dock.

I give to her, the said Johannah Vincent, her Executors administrators and assigns from and immediately after my decease, for and during all the rest, residue and remainder of the Term and Estate xxx shall be therein xxx to xxx and unexpired.

Then I give and bequeath unto my said wife Johannah Vincent some annuity or yearly xxx charge of five pounds of lawful money of Great Britain for and during the term of her natural life if this term which I have in xxx Bakehouse situate at Torpoint in the parish of Antony in the East, otherwise Antony Saint Jacob in the County of Cornwall, shall so long continue payable quarterly.

That is to say on the twenty fifth day of March the twenty fourth day of June the twenty ninth day of September and the twenty fifth day of December by even and equal portions, free from all duties whatsoever.

The first payment thereof to begin and be made on such of the said days of payment as shall first happen most after my decease by my executors hereinafter named out of the rents and profits of my said Bakehouse if the same shall xxx xxx by my Executors. But if my said Bakehouse with the (contents) shall happen any time hereafter to be void and no tenant therein, this annuity, for the time the said Bakehouse shall be without a tenant, shall cease and no part thereof shall be paid during so long time as the same shall continue void.

Then I give and bequeath unto my said wife Joannah Vincent the sum of seven pounds to be paid her by my Executors herein after named as soon as possible after my decease.

Then  I give devise and bequeath unto my three sons in law Thomas Courtis, carpenter of His Majesty’s Ship Aquanaut, Thomas Simpson, gunner of His Majesty’s Ship Aquanaut and William Hoyten of the said Town of Dock, house carpenter and the survivor of them and the Executors and xxx of such survivor all that my seat or pew in the South xxx of Saint Aubyns Chapel in the said Town of Dock No. 20 in trust and to and for all and every xxx child and children  of my daughters Joannah, the wife of the said William Hoyten, Deborah the wife of the said Thomas Simpson and Frances, the wife of the said Thomas Courtis lawfully begotten or to be begotten their heirs and xxx forever equally between them. Share and share alike as tenants in common and not as joint tenants. But to permit and suffer my said wife Johannah Vincent and my said daughters Joannah Hoyten, Deborah Simpson and Frances Courtis to sit therein when and as often as they shall think proper during the term of their natural lives

Then I give and bequeath unto my brother, Anthony Vincent the sum of ten pounds to be paid xxx as soon as possible after my decease.

Then I give and bequeath unto my said wife Joannah Vincent the bed bedding and bedstead and furniture wherein we generally lye together with six chairs that are in the same house where the said bed xxx is with the square oak table, one round mahogany tea table with kitchen and other furniture sufficient to furnish two rooms between the house I now live in and the house in the possession of the said Thomas Courtis, to be used by her during the term of her natural life.

All the rest residue and remainder of my messuages, tenements and premises, goods, chattels, plates, money, securities for annuity and all other personal and testamentary estate of what kind so ever that I shall be in possession or interested in or entitled unto at the time of my decease  I give and bequeath unto the said Thomas Courtis Thomas Simpson and William Hoyton and the survivor of them and the executors and administrators of such survivor in trust and to and for the several xxx xxx xxx and purposes herein after mentioned.

That is to say in trust to pay and divide the same into and amongst the children of my said daughters Joannah Hoyton, Deborah Simpson and Frances Courtis lawfully begotten or to be begotten in manner following.

That is to say one third part thereof to be divided between the children of my said daughter Joannah Hoyton, one other third part to be equally divided between the children of my said daughter Deborah Simpson and the other third part to be equally divided between the children of my said daughter Frances Courtis.

But to permit and suffer my said wife Joannah Vincent to live in the said two rooms between the house I now live in and the house the said Thomas Courtis now lives in for and during the term of her natural life, if she shall think proper, without paying any rent for the same.

And also to permit and suffer my said daughter Johannah Hoyton and her family to live in the house wherein I now live for and during the term of her natural life.

And also to permit and suffer my said daughters Frances Courtis and Deborah Simpson to live in, prosper and enjoy each of those and their respective families the respective houses they now live in for and during the term of their natural lives in the xxx and estates which I have xxx shall so long continue without paying any rent for the same.

And I do hereby nominate and appoint the same Thomas Courtis Thomas Simpson and William Hoyton Executors in Trust of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me made.

In witness whereof I have to this my last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper set my name to the first sheet and my name and seal to this last sheet this eighth day of January  in the twenty eighth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George The Third by the Grace of God of Great Britain xxx and xxx Defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty eight.
