Seat: Nostell Priory, Wakefield, W Yorkshire. This is one of James Paine's first works, dating from the 1730s. Thirty years later it was added to by Robert Adam, who built on a wing. He also decorated the interior. The state rooms, with their exquisite plasterwork, are particularly fine examples of the Scottish architect's work and are enhanced by the Chippendale furniture specially designed to be seen in the high-18th-century setting he created at Nostell.
