Lineage: The FORESTERs were orginally of Watling Street, Salop, and were indeed foresters, having the custody in fee of Wellington Hay, a portion of the Wrekin Forest, and holding half a virgate of land in Wellington by serjeantry (performance of a service). An alleged descent from Aelfric, younger son of Aethelweard, an Ealdorman active c 993 in the time of KING AETHELRED THE UNREADY (see Charles Mosley, Blood Royal, p.59), has recently been advanced but had not been verified at time of going to press. If proven it would link the FORESTERs with EGBERT KING OF WESSEX 802–839.
