Lineage–ALEXANDER BRODIE, younger son of DAVID BRODIE OF BRODIE (see that famiiy), purchased the estates of Pitgavenie, Eastgrange and Lethen, Nairnshire and Morayshire 14 March, 1634, from Sir John Grant, 6th of Freuchie, and the estate of Kinloss, Morayshire 1643; born c 1587; married 1st, Margaret, daughter of James Clerk, of Balbirnie, Fife, and niece of Magdalen, wife of 1st Lord Bruce, of Kinloss (see ELGIN & KINCARDINE, E), and died 7 Nov 1672, leaving issue,

3a James; married Margaret, daughter of Thomas Forbes of Waterton, Aberdeenshire, and had issue, with six daughters., one son,

2b SOPHIA, 9th of Lethen, succeeded her sis; born 12 Feb 1759; married 14 June, 1796, her cousin-german, Lewis Dunbar of Grange and Burgie House, Morayshire, and died without issue 26 Sept 1829, when she was succeeded by her cousin, James Campbell Brodie (see below). He died 9 Nov 1827.
