purchased the estates of Pitgavenie, Eastgrange and Lethen, Nairnshire and
Morayshire 14 March, 1634, from Sir John Grant, 6th of Freuchie, and the estate
of Kinloss, Morayshire 1643; born c 1587; married 1st, Margaret,
daughter of James Clerk, of Balbirnie, Fife, and niece of Magdalen, wife of 1st
Lord Bruce, of Kinloss (see ELGIN & KINCARDINE, E), and died 7
Nov 1672, leaving issue, 1a ALEXANDER, of whom
presently. 2a DAVID,
succeeded his bro. 3a James; married
Margaret, daughter of Thomas Forbes of Waterton, Aberdeenshire, and had
issue, with six daughters., one son, 1b ALEXANDER,
succeeded his uncle. 1a Jean; married
Jonathan Forbes, MD, 5th s of John Forbes, 2nd of Culloden (see
BURKE's L.G., 1952 edn), and had issue. 2a Janet; married
1654, George Pringle, 6th of Torwoodlee (see BURKE's L.G.,
1952 edn), and had issue. The eldest
son, ALEXANDER BRODIE, 2nd
of Lethen, had issue, an only child, Janet, who married 1672, Ludovick
Grant, 8th of Freuchie and 1st of Grant. He was succeeded by his
brother, DAVID BRODIE of
Pitgavenie, 3rd of Lethen; married 22 April, 1658, Mary. daughter of Sir
John Haldane, 13th of Gleneagles (see CHINNERY-HALDANE, of
Gleneagles), and died without issue 1683, when he was
succeeded by his nephew, ALEXANDER BRODIE of
Dunearn, 4th of Lethen; born 1667; married 1693, Sophia, daughter
of Sir Hugh Campbell, 5th of Cawdor (see CAWDOR, E), and died
1745, having had, with other issue, two sons, 1a ALEXANDER, 5th of
Lethen, MP for Nairn, 1739; married 1754, Henrietta, daughter of Col
William Grant, 1st of Ballindalloch (of the 2nd line), and died at
Lethen, 28 April, 1770, leaving issue, 1b ALEXANDER, 6th of
Lethen; born 16 July, 1756; died 28 Nov 1770. 2b JOHN, 7th of Lethen,
succeeded his brother; born 15 Jan 1758; died 20 Sept
1773. 1b ANNE, 8th of Lethen,
succeeded her brother; born 17 June, 1755; died unm Oct
1805. 2b SOPHIA, 9th of
Lethen, succeeded her sis; born 12 Feb 1759; married 14
June, 1796, her cousin-german, Lewis Dunbar of Grange and Burgie House,
Morayshire, and died without issue 26 Sept 1829, when she was
succeeded by her cousin, James Campbell Brodie (see below).

married Ann Tapp, and had issue, four sons and three

married 20 Oct 1855, Janet (died 19 Jan 1912), daughter of William
Haig, of Red Braes (see HAIG formerly of Bemersyde),
and died 27 Nov 1879, having had issue, with three dau, 1b William Haig;
born 28 July, 1856; married 15 Aug 1883, Gilliam (died 14
May, 1929), daughter of John Archibald Callendar, sometime of Newton House,

surname of Brodie (died 23 Oct 1931), eldest son of John Archibald

Idvies, Lt Scots Gds; born 8 May, 1894; educated Harrow, and RMC
Sandhurst; married 3 June, 1924, Freda (who married 2nd, 2 June,
1932, Ffinto-Gell, elder surviving son of John Gell, of St Leonardson-Sea), and
died as the result of a shooting accident, 3 July, 1924, s.p.

SCOTT-MONCRIEFF) of Basford Hall). He was killed in
action , 2 Nov 1914, v.p. She married 2nd, 25 Aug 1925, Alfred
Stratford Dugdale, BA only son of late Cdr Edward Stratford Dugdale (see
