Lineage: This family derived its name from the town of Berney in the hundred of North Greenhow in Norfolk.

Sir THOMAS de BERNEY; married Margaret, daughter and heir of William de Reedham, through whom he acquired, with other lands, the Manor of Reedham, settling there from Witchingham, Norfolk, temp EDWARD III.

His descendant,

HENRY BERNEY; moved the family seat, which stood near Reedham Church, and enclosed it in a park nearby, where he built the mansion called Reedham Hall or Park Hall (sold 1696, burnt down and the remains dismantled c 1750); married Alice, daughter of Roger Apleton, of Comb, Essex, and died 1584, leaving an eldest son:
